In less than 4 months, Slingshot delivered a working prototype of a point of sale terminal that included a check reader, scanner, card reader, and two printers. The device needed to allow easy access for cartridge exchange and other regular maintenance activities. Also, the ergonomics and human factors issues of inserting checks, and swiping cards were key driving elements for the project.
Slingshot delivered on the client's objective through a tight and thorough cooperation of design and engineering. The prototype design included dozens of moving parts, two printers, a scanner, a MICR reader, a card reader, an LCD screen, a keypad, two circuit boards and a paper transport mechanism. All of these components were housed inside an attractive, user friendly, easy-to-maintain product.
